History

In 2007, ten fellow woodturners sat round a table at the Sprowston Senior Citizens Club and drew up the rules and aims, of a soon to be formed woodturning club, aptly named Norwich Woodturners.  The following month the inaugural meeting was held and we were surprised to see nearly thirty people turn up to join.

Initially we had no equipment, so a members lathe was brought in each month.  We decided to apply for a Lottery grant and six months later we were successful.  With the money we purchased a lathe and audio visual equipment.

The club continued to grow until we had nearly seventy members, however Covid has meant membership has reduced,  now as restrictions are lifted, we are returning to regular demonstrations and events and hope that membership will once again increase.  We are a friendly club and welcome turners of all standards. The club also has several members who will act as mentors to new turners who are experiencing difficulties of any kind.

The aim of the club is to encourage and help members to develop and become proficient in this wonderful hobby.
